Climate and Soil Info
Our estate vineyard is located on the idyllic Te Awanga coast,
in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand.
Macro-Climate
Hawke’s Bay is located on the eastern side of the North Island and is one of New Zealand’s warmest regions. With high sunshine hours and low rain fall (780 mm year) Hawke’s Bay is well suited to Vitis vinifera.
Micro-Climate
The afternoon sea breeze is perfect for preserving a lively acidity, yet allowing excellent maturation and ripening of the grapes. This moderated climate results in intense flavour development ensuring that distinct wines are produced representing the terrior of Te Awanga.
Soil Diversity
Our vineyard has a variety of soil types ranging from shingle-sandy soils to fine clay/silt soils and typically yields fruit with slight differences in flavour profiles, giving us extensive blending options. We’ve carefully identified changes in soil type, structure and porosity and selected varietals to match the different soil types.
Varietals
Our climate allows for a diversity of varietals to be grown. These varieties range from Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Gewürztraminer through to Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah and Viognier.
