ELEPHANT HILL SUPPORTS THE
DAVID SHEPHERD WILDLIFE FOUNDATION, ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE PROJECT TO AID THE SUCCESFUL RESCUE, REHABILITATION AND RELEASE OF NEWLY ORPHANED ELEPHANTS

In Hawke’s Bay New Zealand we’re a long way from Elephant habitats, yet when asked if we’d like to support the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation’s, Elephant Orphanage project, we immediately said, “yes please!” It just made perfect sense.

A little bit from every cellar door and NZ online wine sale made will contribute to the lives of baby orphaned Elephants.

Internationally recognised, the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) is an adaptable and flexible, non-bureaucratic charitable organisation responding promptly to conservation threats by supporting trusted, reputable individuals and organisations operating in the field.

We’re inspired by their dedication, passion and commitment to wildlife particularly; the Elephants and every year we’ll make a donation from our Cellar Door and New Zealand online wine sales to help the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) Elephant Orphanage project.  Our funds will directly aid the successful rescue, rehabilitation and release of new orphans.

Elephants are the inspiration behind our name and hold a special place in the hearts of all of us at Elephant Hill. Admittedly they’ve got little to do with making wine, but that said, we’re sure they could crush a lot of grapes! This aside, they’re simply magnificent, intelligent and radiate such positive symbolism and characteristics.  We love them.

"When I first visited Zambia in the early 1960s it was home to 250,000 elephants and 3,500 black rhinos. Today fewer than 25,000 elephants survive and all of its rhinos were lost. Sadly poaching continues today with the tragic results of orphans such as Chamilandu and Chodoba. We are totally dedicated to saving these babies but more importantly the wider park protection programme which will ensure wildlife survival and benefits to the wonderful Zambian people."
