2009 Elephant Hill MerlotSilver Medal, Royal Easter Show Wine Awards NZ 2011Our 2009 Elephant Hill Merlot was harvested by hand from our hillside vineyard overlooking Cape Kidnappers and the Pacific Ocean. The cooling sea breeze allows us to extend the growing season for our vines and not risk over-ripeness in the fruit. Five tonne of Merlot was carefully de-stemmed to an open top cuve and fermented vigorously over a five day period, then gently pressed to new oak barriques. Slow malolactic fermentation in barrel and minimal intervention has created a classic elegant Merlot. Dark black fruits, mocha and herbes de provence flavours subtly merge to offer a long lingering finish. Ripe black doris plums continue to fill the palate alongside delicious undertones of crème caramel and cinnamon. A 10% discount is offered on all case purchases (12 bottles), this saving will be applied once 12+ bottles have been added to the shopping cart.Winemakers Cellaring Recommendation: Our Elephant Hill 2009 Merlot is excellent to drink now and will cellar superbly for the next five years.
